Bruno competed for Brazil at Beijing 2008 and London 2012 in men’s laser class, and now coaches China’s laser radial sailing team.
The Airbnb Olympian Experience he offers online is allowing people from all over the world to connect and work out together.
With our support, you too can become an Airbnb host and earn extra income like Bruno. You can sign up through Athlete365.
It is these experiences that taught me a lot about myself and inspired me to share those lessons with others.
As an athlete, you have a unique lifestyle that allows you to travel, meet people and see the world. So why not share those experiences with other people?
Sailing is a complex sport and challenged me in so many ways. You’re alone on the boat, making your own decisions and dealing with the rain, wind, cold, currents, and so on. It is these experiences that taught me a lot about myself and inspired me to share those lessons with others.

There is much more to being an athlete than the medals. It’s a lifestyle, and I have friends from all over the world thanks to sailing. I love meeting new people and really getting to know them, which is why the Airbnb Olympian Experiences were a perfect opportunity for me to share my passion for sport and earn money from doing something I enjoy.
I found a new purpose through Airbnb
The opportunity from Airbnb came at exactly the right time as I was in quarantine which, as a coach, stopped me from doing my job. I had to think about what I could offer that people would be interested in and when I learnt about this opportunity through Athlete365 and Airbnb, everything fell into place. My love for meeting new people, for my sport, and the fact that I have my own CrossFit gym meant offering family workouts was perfect for me.
With the pandemic forcing many of us to remain indoors and blocking many forms of exercise, it has become even more important to find new ways to keep active. As such, my experience is available to everyone, from children to grandparents. Regardless of what level of activity you are capable of, all of the exercises are tailored to the individual, meaning everyone can take part in a challenging but comfortable environment.
How I run my Experience
We always start with breathing exercises. The importance of breathing properly is often overlooked, so we do this as a short meditation to keep everyone present and in the moment. From there, we move on to mobility and flexibility exercises, including simple dynamic movements to make sure everyone feels nice and loose before focusing on core exercises – which are actually fundamental to sailing given how often you have to lie flat out of the boat.
Finally, we move onto “tabata” and “every minute on the minute” HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workouts, where we set a movement for 30 seconds to do at your own pace and then rest for 30 seconds. One of the best aspects of the workouts is that it’s a really friendly, inclusive experience that anyone can join in with, including my daughter and wife who take part in many of our sessions, and people love this kind of connection. Each session is interactive and individual, meaning that it’s tailored to your fitness level and needs. And the final special ingredient is Latin music which really brings the positive and fun vibe.
One reviewer said: “This was a great way to connect a family across the US with kids 8 yrs+ up to Grandpa enjoying the stories and the intro to CrossFit. A great way to fuel Olympic spirit and see the world as a smaller place. Bruno was engaging and very entertaining. Highly recommend!”

Remember, meeting others from across the globe while having fun exercising can be a dream situation – for both you and your clients.
How to start your own Experience
I would definitely recommend that other athletes get involved in hosting their own Experience. I’ve met so many new people from around the world and now I have repeat clients who I speak to every week.
My advice is to keep it simple. People want to connect and to see real passion, so you should do something that really interests you first, and then your passion for your experience will inspire others taking part. You have to bring your heart and bring the fire. This is more important than ever in these current times when people need some help both staying fit, but also maintaining some kind of social interaction with new people.
So be simple, be passionate and be happy. And remember, meeting others from across the globe while having fun exercising can be a dream situation – for both you and your clients.
