Protecting the fairness and integrity of sport is a key priority for the Olympic Movement, and at the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Buenos Aires 2018 there will be a fantastic opportunity to get some top advice and educate yourself about the competition manipulation risks that you may encounter during your sporting careers.
At the Believe in Sport booth, experts will be available to answer any difficult questions you may have, such as: Is it ever okay to place a bet on an Olympic sport? And how careful do I need to be when sharing something I’ve heard from inside my camp? Bring a curious mind and leave with a better understanding of integrity, plus some exclusive goodies
Where is the Believe in Sport booth?
You’ll be able to find the Believe in Sport booth in the Athlete365 Space, in the heart of the Youth Olympic Village. The booth will be near to both the dining hall and the official YOG photo booth, so it’ll be hard to miss!
When can I visit it?
The booth will be open during the first week of the Games, from 2 to 11 October, and you can visit any time between 10am and 9pm.
Who will be there?
The booth will be run by members of the IOC’s Believe in Sport team, who will be joined by Athlete Role Models and members of the IOC Athletes’ Commission. It’s a chance to get some great advice from some experienced and friendly voices.
What should I expect?
Using the Believe in Sport app, you’ll be able to create your own athlete avatar and choose from four scenarios in which you’re confronted by difficult real-life situations, including betting on your own sport, sharing inside information, and being asked to deliberately underperform to change the outcome of a competition. Choose your responses and see if you can navigate the tricky web of sport manipulation – and learn what the outcomes might be if not. You can play the game solo or team up with a friend in multiplayer mode, while all the resources at the booth will be available in 10 different languages.
Why should I go?
To protect yourself. Competition manipulation in sport does happen, and often athletes aren’t even aware that they’re involved in it. A visit to the booth will help you identify the potential danger areas and give you the confidence to know what to do if confronted with a difficult situation. Your entourage are also welcome to join, and they can learn about the competition manipulation toolbox available to help them help you. Plus, you’ll be able to pick up a special YOG sports bag for free!
