Joint day with WOA

Day two of the 9th International Athletes’ Forum perfectly encapsulated the achievement and perseverance of the IOC Athletes’ Commission with the announcement of the USD 10 million direct funding per Olympiad for Continental and NOC Athletes’ Commissions.

However, the day began with a panel on the Changing Landscape of the Olympic Movement – put into context by the decisions taken by the Organising Committees of the Olympic Games (OCOG) of Paris 2024 – represented by IOC AC Member and CEO of said OCOG, Tony Estanguet – and Tokyo 2020 – represented by IOC Sports Director, Kit McConnell.

An update and case study on the Athletes’ Rights and Responsibilities Declaration led the participants into breakout sessions on Athlete365 Career+ as well as admin support for the International Federation (IF) Athletes’ Commissions.

Post lunch, an enigmatic session on Mental Health followed. With a panel consisting of Olympic Champion Abhinav Bindra, chair of the IOC Entourage Commission Sergey Bubka, Olympic Bronze Medallist Gracie Gold, IBSF President Ivo Ferriani, Chief Medical Officer at FIFPro Dr Vincent Goutterbarge, and IOC Medical and Scientific Director, Dr Richard Budgett, the session further informed and inspired the Athlete Representative network on the stigma around Mental Health and the steps we’re to take to ensure athletes receive the best help possible.

A two-hour-long open and honest Q&A session with IOC President Thomas Bach followed where questions on the Olympic Movement Funding Model, new sports and even Anti-Doping were addressed.

IOC Vice-Chair Danka Bartekova ended the day listing nine recommendations her body will take back and work upon while also announcing the further support Athletes’ Commissions were to receive henceforth.
