Mission
The mission of the University Relations section is to facilitate and encourage the collaboration between the international academic community and the IOC. This relationship has a twofold objective: to respond to requests from universities, (support for academic activities, address research topic proposals, collaboration, etc.) and to answer the IOC administration’s needs which the academic world could provide (research, articles, etc.).
Presentation of activities
The section’s main activities involve university research, cooperation and exchanges with the academic community and the Olympic Studies monitoring project.
The research projects that the University Relations section coordinates cover two main areas:
- The PhD Students Research Grant Programme. The aim of this yearly programme is to encourage PhD students to undertake research with a humanities or social sciences perspective on the Olympic phenoma. Useful documents are available here::

- Applied research. This concerns the projects identified by the IOC which answer its specific needs. The University Relations section invites researchers with an academic position, who have experience in research on Olympism and who are interested in working with the OSC, to contact it by sending an email to studies_centre@olympic.org.
The section is in regular contact with other Olympic Studies Centres, professors and university researchers working in the area of Olympic studies, together with university students interested in Olympism. This network (comprising almost a thousand contacts in five continents) allows not only for exchanges but also for collaboration on academic activities on Olympism, the Olympic Movement and the Olympic Games. The “OSC Newsletter” provides quarterly communication between the OSC and academics, and encourages exchanges.
The Section is also responsible for running an Olympic Studies monitoring project whose responsibility is to collect information on academic activities linked to Olympism around the world. A list of this information is posted regularly on our web pages.
