LILLEHAMMER MEDAL

Stimlist Hahestad during the
Award Ceremony, Lillehammer
1994

The medals of the Winter Games differ from those of the Summer Olympics in that they can be designed according to the wishes of the organisers. This is the reason for the richness of variety, form and size of the winner's medal for the Winter Olympics.

For the medal design, the organisers of the Lilllehammer Olympics in 1994 wished to evoke the significant characteristics of the Nordic landscape and climate. The bronze, silver and gold medals were made of sparagmite, a stone extracted from the site where the ski jump was built.
