The torches, medals and sports equipment which have marked the Summer Games
No, this helmet is not from a Russian Sputnik, it helped streamline the Swiss cyclist Robert Dill-Bundi, in the pursuit event of the 1980 Moscow Games.
When Dill-Bundi went to Moscow to compete, he brought with him his own "traditional" helmet whose wind penetration coefficient was very poor.
The Czech athlete, Peter Kocek who had won the 1000 m event with one of the first aerodynamic helmets, in a true sportsman-like gesture gave Dill-Bundi his helmet. Not only did Dill-Bundi break the world record in 4:32.29 in the semifinal, he also won the gold medal in the 4000 m individual pursuit final, overcoming the French Alain Bondue.
After his victory, Dill-Bundi got off of his bike and kissed the Olympic velodrome.
