VOLUNTEERS AT THE OLYMPIC MUSEUM

The work of volunteers constitutes an important part of daily life at the Museum. Volunteers are used frequently by the Museum whenever archiving and mailing are necessary or new exhibitions and big events are being launched. The volunteers are mostly local sports enthusiasts interested in Olympism. They are ready to help when the museum stages, for example, Olympic Week for school children during the autumn break, the annual Sessions of the IOC or large congresses.

The museum has compiled a list of about 250 volunteers, and for almost every event approximately 150 volunteers are called upon to perform many kinds of functions.

The volunteer concept has a clearly social objective. The staff at the Museum respect the volunteers' motives for helping the Museum, namely to be and feel useful. Retired people enjoy getting out of their usual routines, making new friends and have interesting experiences.

Moreover, these people demonstrate exactly the spirit and enthusiasm which prevail every four years in the organisation of the Olympic Games of a host city.
