THE FUTURE OF OLYMPIC BROADCASTING

LONG-TERM OBJECTIVES

In addition to increased revenue, the long-term marketing strategy of the IOC with respect to broadcast rights holders seeks to:

- Secure a set financial sum for the Olympic Movement and future host cities, while avoiding the fluctuations in the marketplace.

- Forge stronger links between sponsors, broadcasters, and the Olympic Family. Working together, they can promote an agenda that goes beyond the Games and supports the entire Olympic Movement.

- Strengthen the ongoing legacy of sponsor and broadcasting support from one Olympic Games to the next, allowing the organisers to draw on an ever-deepening reservoir of experience and technology.

- Establish long-term broadcasting rights fees contracts, which include profit-sharing arrangements and commitments to provide additional Olympic programming. This will ensure improved global coverage of the Games and promote the ideals of Olympism and the work of the Olympic Movement throughout the world.

Discussions for broadcast rights post-2008 will begin in 2003.
