FUNDING FOR OLYMPIC SOLIDARITY

INCREASING RESOURCES

Funding for Olympic Solidarity and its programmes is derived from a share of the television rights for the broadcast of the Olympic Games. Intended for the National Olympic Committees (NOCs), this share has always been Olympic Solidarity’s only income.

Olympic Solidarity is responsible for administering and managing this budget through various programmes, established for the development of sport and intended for the NOCs and their Continental Associations, according to their needs and priorities. All these programmes, established on a quadrennial basis, are approved by the Olympic Solidarity Commission.

The current quadrennial plan (2005- 2008) has a development and assistance budget totalling US$ 244,000,000, which is 16.48% higher than the past four-year plan (2001-2004).

Structure of the Quadriennal Budget

Breakdown of the budget 2005-2008
World Programmes US$ 110,500,000
Continental Programmes US$ 90,000,000
Olympic Games Participation US$ 34,000,000
Administration / Communication US$ 9,500,000
TOTAL US$ 244,000,000
