THE ETHICS COMMISSION

MISSION

The Ethics Commission was created in 1999 by the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

This independent Commission is made up of nine members. Its mission is to be the guardian of the ethical principles of the Olympic Movement, as set out in the Olympic Charter and the Code of Ethics.

It makes recommendations to the IOC Executive Board and Session.


OLYMPIC ETHICS: TEXTS

The Code of Ethics was adopted in 1999 by the Session in Seoul. Since then, it has been updated several times by the decision of the IOC Executive Board, as set out in Rule 22 of the Olympic Charter. Several Implementing Provisions of the Code of Ethics as well as the Ethics Commission Statutes and the Rules of Procedure have been produced and updated.

COMPOSITION OF THE COMMISSION

Commission
The Ethics Commission is composed of eight individuals, no more than four of whom are IOC members and at least five prominent personalities known for their independence of spirit, their competency and their international reputation. The Commission has been chaired by Youssoupha Ndiaye since February 2007.

The Ethics Commission Secretary assists the Commission in all its missions. The Secretary is available to the Olympic Movement as part of a preventive and advisory mission to help better apply the ethical principles and rules.
