REPRESENTATION OF ATHLETES WITHIN NATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEES AND INTERNATIONAL FEDERATIONS
Achievements:
Representation of active athletes in sports administration enables them to take into consideration their needs and expectations.
Opinions:
We encourage the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and the International Federations (IF) to give athletes a voice by creating an athletes' commission within their structure.
THE OLYMPIC GAMES
Achievements:
As representatives on the IOC commissions, the members of the Athletes' Commission participate directly in the entire organisational process of the Olympic Games.
Furthermore, they form working groups to ensure that the competition, training and living conditions for the athletes during the Games are satisfactory.
During the period of the Games, Commission members are ready to listen to their peers in the Olympic Village or at the competition venues.
Opinions:
The best athletes in the world should have the chance to take part in the Olympic Games of which they are the key players.
The programme of the Games should reflect the evolution of sport and offer the same possibilities of participation to both sexes.
We ask the International Federations to encourage their former athletes to become judges and referees.
DOPING
Achievements:
The Athletes' Commission has actively participated in work leading to the creation of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and is represented within all bodies of the Agency.
The Commission supports and is participating in the implementation of a voluntary doping passport for athletes, developed by WADA.
It warns athletes against the risks linked to the use of nutritional supplements, and campaigns for the international harmonisation of rules regarding the labelling of these products.
Opinions:
Against doping of all forms physical, moral, ethical we are fighting for:
- The harmonisation of anti-doping rules at an international level.
- The implementation of out-of-competition tests.
- Sincere cooperation between all parties concerned, both sporting and governmental.
- The application of strict sanctions.
WOMEN IN SPORT
Achievements:
- Women for whom the practice of sport is made difficult by their origins, religion or dress must be particularly encouraged and supported.
- Women should be more represented in sports administration at all levels.
Opinions:
Our objective is equality of the sexes at all levels within the Olympic Movement, allowing women to have the same opportunities as men.
ENVIRONMENT
Achievements:
The athletes - who are also represented in the IOC Sport and Environment Commission - ensure that the Olympic Games become integrated into the environment as much as possible.
Opinions:
- We, athletes, are directly affected by the quality of our environment.
- We must make every effort to make the citizens of the world aware of ecological issues and encourage environmentally friendly activities in order to attain sustainable development.
