Temporary exhibition Heroes

Until 13 September 2009

An historic and sociological approach to the star system in different eras. An exhibition available in four modules: Ancient heroes (from 776 BC to 393 AD); The heroes of tradition (from 1896); Modern heroes (from the end of the First World War); and Global heroes (from 1980).

A document to address the theme of the sporting hero in class and to prepare for a visit to the exhibition. Activity sheets for 6-16 year-olds. Available in French, English and German. It can be downloaded from www.olympic.org/pedagogie. Cost of the paper version: CHF 10.

Tour and Heroes Academy workshop package

The schoolchildren invent a superhero identity for themselves and a cause to defend. They dress up, work on posture and attitude, then go to visit the exhibition accompanied by a guide. For 6-11 year-olds; duration an hour-and-a-half; reservations on 021 621 6727; cost CHF 50 + entry tickets.

Tour and Become the hero of your tour package

Accompanied by a guide, the schoolchildren discover the exhibition. Through a scavenger hunt, they are confronted with the fates of sporting heroes. They discuss problem situations that are put to them, and make choices that influence their route through the Museum. Who wants to be become a hero? For 12-16 year-olds; duration an hour-and-a-half; reservations on 021 621 6727; cost CHF 50 + entry tickets.

Jean-Blaise Evéquoz temporary exhibition

A team bronze medalist at the Games of the XXI Olympiad in 1976 in Montreal, Jean-Blaise Evéquoz is now a painter-artist.

The week’s events at The Olympic Museum
Saturday 4 July from 2 to 5 p.m.: 4th Mini-Stars Relay
As a preamble to the unmissable athletics meeting in Lausanne, Athletissima links up The Olympic Museum and the UBS to present the Mini-Stars Relay. Open to the masses, this competition consists of a 340m relay across the Olympic Park. The narrowness of the route requires respect for the other competitors and a great deal of fair play. Elimination races precede the grand final, which leads up to the podium.

Sunday 5 July at 11 a.m.: Shedding light on sports heroes guided tour

Thursday 18 June: Acrobatic Rock’n Roll & Freefly demonstrations

Five athletes qualified for 2009 Kaohsiung provide for an even better insight into two sports: Acrobatic Rock’n Roll (DanceSport) and Freefly (Air Sports). The number ones of the world rankings demonstrate their discipline and explain how one becomes champion on the parquet and in the sky. Session I: 2.30 p.m., session II: 4 p.m.

Dreams of Olympics, a painting donated to The Olympic Museum

On Friday 12 June, The Olympic Museum hosted a Chinese delegation on a visit to offer the giant Dreams of Olympics painting by Chinese artist Zunwu Wang. The artist and his wife were accompanied by Mengjie Liu, Assistant to the Chairman of the Bridge Art Centre in Beijing, and Jiayi Qu, Director of the Art Department at the Bridge Art Centre. They were welcomed by IOC President Jacques Rogge, Mrs Rogge and Olympic Museum Director Francis Gabet.

The 380 x 270 cm painting donated to the Museum includes the figures of Jacques Rogge and Qi Liu, President of the Organising Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing, together with the well-known Chinese basketball player Ming Yao, four-time Olympic table tennis champion Yaping Deng, and Xiang Liu, Olympic 110m hurdles champion at the 2004 Games in Athens. The work is part of a themed series that Zunwu Wang has been working on recently. The works President Mao walking and The Motherland are also part of the series.

Zunwu Wang is a professional artist born in 1941 in Shandong province. He graduated from the ChongZhen Academy of Fine Arts before becoming a professional painter in the 1960s.

During the last 40 years, in pursuit of his dream the artist has worked entirely on portraits, painting more than a thousand. He has also founded a class to study painting techniques. In 2008, Zunwu Wang signed a contract with the Beijing Bridge Art Centre and, at present, is working on a large historical fresco entitled Princess WenCheng.
