Vancouver 2010: applications for ENR accreditations closed on 30 November 2008

Application form available for non-rights holding radio and television broadcasting organisations (ENR) to cover the XXI Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver 2010

The International Olympic Committee is pleased to announce that the application form for ENR accreditation for non-rights holding radio and television broadcasting organisations to cover the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver 2010 will be available from 1 October - 30 November 2008. The ENR organisations will have full responsibility to apply to the IOC for accreditation within the required timelines. Late requests will not be considered.

Applications for ENR accreditations closed on 30 November 2008. No further accreditations will be considered after this date.

The IOC directly manages the ENR accreditation process and all questions should be addressed to media.operations@olympic.org

IMPORTANT KEY DATES FOR ENR ACCREDITATION

Date	Accreditation Activity
1 October 2008	The ENR accreditation application process is launched on the IOC website www.olympic.org/accred2010. Each ENR requesting accreditation to cover the Games must complete the online accreditation application form.
30 November 2008	Deadline for the return of completed ENR accreditation application forms
December 2008	The IOC will liaise with each National Olympic Committee (NOC) that has had ENR organisations apply from their territory in order to determine the final allocation of ENR accreditations
January 2009	The IOC will contact each ENR organisation that it has agreed to accredit to confirm their quota. The IOC will send each organisation the News Access Rules and the ENR Undertaking. The Undertaking must be signed and returned to the IOC by the prescribed deadline. The IOC will also contact the unsuccessful ENR applicants. The IOC will advise all accredited ENR organisations about the process for reserving accommodation through VANOC. VANOC will send its Press Operations publications to the ENR organisations.
12 June 2009	VANOC will distribute the Press by Name accreditation application forms to ENR organisations that have returned their signed Undertaking forms, as informed by the IOC.
12 September 2009	Deadline for the return of Press by Name forms to VANOC.
November 2009	VANOC Accreditation Department distributes the non-valid Olympic Identity and Accreditation Cards (OIAC) to all accredited organisations.
12 January 2010	OIAC acts as a valid visa into Canada
12- 28 February 2010	XXI Olympic Winter Games Vancouver

WRITTEN AND PHOTOGRAPHIC PRESS – E CATEGORY

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is pleased to announce that the press accreditation process for Vancouver 2010 officially started in February 2008, 24 months prior to the start of the Games, when the IOC officially notified all National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of their press accreditation quota allocations.

The written and photographic press, including technicians and support staff are accredited to the Olympic Games under the generic category “E”. Please see below the description for each accreditation category:

Code	Description
E	Journalist: Journalist, editor, photographic editor, employed or contracted by a world news agency, a general daily newspaper, a sports daily, a sports magazine or sports Internet site, a periodical or independent/freelance journalist under contract
EP	Photographer: Photographer, meeting the same criteria as those defined for category “E”
ET	Technician: Limited to technical support personnel of major news agencies, organisations and/or photo agencies only
EC	Support Staff: Support staff (office assistant, secretary, interpreter, driver or messenger). Access to the Main Press Centre (MPC) only. Assigned only to press groups, newspapers/magazines and NOCs that have reserved a private office at the MPC

The NOC is solely responsible for the allocation of its press accreditation quota within its territory, in accordance with the IOC guidelines. All members of the written and photographic press are therefore reminded that they should contact their relevant NOC, and not the IOC, if they wish to apply for accreditation for Vancouver 2010. A list of NOCs follows. Simply click on your NOC to view their contact details.

List of National Olympic Committees (NOCs)

ELIGIBLE PERSONS
E category accreditations are allocated to media professionals who meet the above criteria. Each person must be affiliated to one or several news organisations and his/her application must be validated by the news organisation they represent and by the respective NOC.

Publishers, advertising or athletes’ agents, public relations and promotion agents, representatives of press groups or newspaper/magazine/Internet groups who perform an administrative role are not eligible for E accreditations, unless approved by the IOC.

New media organisations (such as Internet) are to be considered within the NOC quota.

In order to maintain a high level of service for the world’s press, the International Olympic Committee maintains a strict quota and the number of press accreditations is therefore limited.

IMPORTANT KEY DATES

The Two Stage Accreditation Process of Press by Number followed by Press by Name starts in October 2008 with the distribution to NOCs of the Press by Number Forms and related publications by VANOC.

The table below provides a general outline of key dates and activities for the Vancouver 2010 press accreditation process:

13 October 2008	The Organising Committee for the Vancouver Games (VANOC) distributes Press by Number forms and related publications to NOCs
18-21 November 2008	World Press Briefing, Vancouver
12 February 2009	Deadline for the return of completed Press by Number forms to VANOC by NOCs
12 June 2009	VANOC distributes the Press by Name accreditation application forms and associated Press Operations publications to NOCs that have returned their Press by Number forms
12 September 2009	NOCs return the Press by Name forms to VANOC within the required deadline
November 2009	VANOC Accreditation Department distributes the non-valid Olympic Identity and Accreditation Cards (OIAC) to NOCs. NOCs distribute the OIACs to their accredited press organisations
12 January 2010	OIAC acts as a valid visa into Canada
