117th IOC SESSION
Role and composition of the Evaluation Commission
ROLE OF THE EVALUATION COMMISSION
Since the 1999 reforms, which, among other things, no longer permitted IOC members to visit Candidate Cities, the IOC Evaluation Commission has played a key role in assessing the cities' capacity to host the Games.
Thus, for the 2012 Games, the Commission must analyse the five Cities' Candidature Files, and conduct inspection visits of the Cities, in the course of which the 17 themes of the File must be taken into account.
It is an intensive schedule with each visit lasting four days. The ultimate mission for the Commission is to write a report, which will be sent to the IOC members and made public.
6 July 2005 will be decision day, with the presentation of the Candidate Cities to the Session in Singapore, followed by the report by the Commission Chairwoman, Nawal El Moutawakel, before the IOC members vote to elect the city which will win the ultimate prize: the organisation of the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012.
COMPOSITION OF THE EVALUATION COMMISSION
Nawal El Moutawakel - Chairwoman
Appointed by the IOC President in July 2004, the Evaluation Commission for the 2012 Games comprises IOC members, representatives of the IFs, NOCs, athletes, and International Paralympic Committee, as well as international experts.
