The host of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games was selected according to a new reform procedure adopted by the 108th Extraordinary Session in March 1999, which prohibited visits by IOC members to the Candidate Cities. Following the presentations of the six cities to the Session on 19 June 1999, a Selection College was elected and appointed in order to choose two finalist cities. Sion and Turin were chosen as finalist cities by the Selection College. The full IOC Session then elected the Host City from the two finalist cities.
On 19 June 1999 at the 109th IOC Session in Seoul, Korea, Turin was elected Host City for the XX Olympic Winter Games in 2006.
The Organising Committees of the Olympic Games (OCOGs) organise the Olympic Games in collaboration with their National Olympic Committee and the host city.
