INTERVIEW OF PRESIDENT ROGGE -
12 FEBRUARY 2002

After the first few days of the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, President Rogge talks about his expectations for the Games, his stay in the Olympic Village and his priorities for the future.

After the first few days of the Salt Lake Games, are your expectations being met?

Jacques Rogge: Yes absolutely, the start was superb but there are still 12 days to hold, so it's a very good start but you only declare victory at the finish line and that is on the last day of the competitions..."

What are your highest priorities following the Salt Lake Games?

JR: "We will prepare the future, that is the Athens Games in two years time, and also we want to make a number of fundamental changes, we will look into the size of the summer Games and we will try to scale them a little bit down. We will review the programme of the different sports, we will continue to reform the IOC, to make it more efficient, more transparent, more democratic, so there are still a lot of things to do!"

Beside tests, what other actions will the Olympic Movement be taking to prevent doping?

JR: "We are going to invest through WADA (the World Anti-Doping Agency), in education, in prevention, scientific research, and harmonisation, and the activities of WADA are of a vital importance for the future credibility of sport."
