What better place to meet some of the up-and-coming names from the world of curling than the sport’s birthplace: Scotland! YOG on the Road made the trip to Perth for the World Junior Curling Championships 2011 - one of the qualifying events for next year’s first ever Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck next January.
There was a tense atmosphere with a World Championship title to play for, but all the young athletes found time to step into the YOG in the Road photo booth to big up next year’s Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck - even the eventual winners of the women’s competition, the home-side, Team Scotland.
For those eligible to compete in Innsbruck, the pressure was felt two-fold as the event represented a chance for them to guarantee their place at the first ever Winter Youth Olympic Games. Altogether 16 mixed curling teams (two junior men and two junior women aged between 16 years and 2 weeks old to 18 years and 2 weeks old at the time of the event) will be eligible to take part. The formal qualifying procedure is based on performances at the Pacific and World Junior Championship events and the World Curling Federation European Challenge.
Remember these faces. Chances are you will be seeing some of them in Innsbruck next year.
