To be a Nordic skier, it takes steely determination, a lot of hard work and more than an ounce of courage.
After all, throwing yourself down a ski jump or pushing through the pain barrier to complete a grueling cross-country course is not for everyone.
YOG on the Road made a pit stop at the FIS Nordic World Skiing Championships in Val de Fiemme, Italy, to ask some of these formidable athletes - including 2013 ski jumping world champions Anders Bardal (NOR) and Sarah Hendrickson (USA) and Nordic combined Olympic champion Bill Demong (USA) - what it is they love about their sport, and what are their hopes for Sochi 2014.
It was also a good opportunity to have a chat with some old friends from the Innsbruck 2012 Youth Olympic Games, such as Katharina Althaus (GER), Ilkka Herola (FIN) and YOG ski jumping champion Sara Takanashi (JPN), who also happened to win this year’s overall World Cup title.
