The International Academy of Sports Science and Technology (AISTS) has updated its Sustainable Sport and Events (SSE) Toolkit, co-developed with the Vancouver Organising Committee for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, to provide a more comprehensive resource on sport sustainability best practices.
With the IOC acting as Principal Support Partner, the SSE Toolkit features new case studies, including a number from the London 2012 Olympic Games, and aims to build on the experiences gained from the staging of past events to provide event organisers and cities with the knowledge and tools to incorporate sustainability into their daily operations and make their events more sustainable.
A “how to” guide
Designed as a practical step-by-step “how to” guide, the Toolkit assists event organisers, sports organisations, National Olympic Committees, Organising Committees and cities to create and implement realistic sustainable initiatives. It promotes the development of strategies around environmental, social and economic issues, ranging from selection and construction of the venue to community involvement, transport and accommodation.
The updated SSE Toolkit also enables members to access a wide range of resources, including videos, guidelines, documents and templates that can be easily searched by topic, country and sport.
