From carbon fibre bicycles to electronic taekwondo vests, from high-tech swim suits to goal-line technology; sport embraces innovation and technology like few other industries. While it can be a source of excitement, opportunity and success, the field also brings a set of challenges.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s free online education platform, the IOC Athlete MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), is giving registered users the chance to go behind the scenes and learn first-hand about what opportunities technology in sport can give to athletes and their team, while addressing the limits of innovation as well as showcasing how technology ensures safe and healthy developments in sport.
Available from today, the course “Sport Technology – On and Behind the Stage” is led by Jan-Anders Månson, a professor at the EPFL (École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) in Switzerland and President of the International Academy of Sports Science and Technology (AISTS), of which the IOC is a founding member.
This course is open to registered users of the IOC Athlete MOOC, so log in or sign up now to the MOOC on www.olympic.org/onlinecourse or via the Athletes’ Space on our website if you have not yet done so.
