The vibrant outfit was developed specifically for the needs of the workforce at Games-time, with the main design featuring the ‘patchwork quilt’ motif that has been a key part of the Sochi 2014 brand, representing the different regions of Russia.
The uniform – which will be worn by over 40,000 employees and volunteers during the Games – consists of more than 10 items and includes an insulated jacket, a sweatshirt, a polo shirt, trousers, a cap, a hat, gloves, shoes, a backpack, and a number of accessories. Staff and volunteers working in the Mountain Cluster will also receive ski pants, thermal underwear, waterproof raincoats, and protective shoe covers.
“This colourful outfit will become another striking symbol of the Sochi 2014 Games,” said Sochi 2014 President Dmitry Chernyshenko. “We are extremely proud that the Sochi 2014 workforce will wear this uniform and that it will contribute to the spirit of celebration around our Games."
The 100-day countdown to Sochi 2014 was marked across Russia, with the official Omega Countdown Clocks – which are located in nine cities around the country – displaying the milestone at exactly 20.14 on 29 October.
Other events included the installation of Olympic Ring ‘spectaculars’ in Sochi, Ryazan, New Urengoy, Salekhard and Kaluga, as well as a Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay celebration in Kaliningrad.
As part of his first official visit to Sochi as IOC President, Thomas Bach also visited venues in both the Mountain and Coastal Clusters, including the Athletes’ Village, the Main Media Centre and the Fisht Olympic Stadium, where the Olympic cauldron will be lit during the Sochi 2014 Opening Ceremony on 7 February 2014.
“With only 100 days to go, the Sochi 2014 venues look impressive, and I am confident that the athletes competing this February will be delighted with them,” said President Bach. “They have already been fully tested over the past two winter seasons, and once filled with sports fans from around the world, I’m confident that the Olympians of 2014 will be able to go home with some unforgettable memories.”
