The Rio 2016 Organising Committee has today marked two years to go until the start of the 2016 Olympic Games with a number of exciting milestones, including the launch of a new-look website and the unveiling of the official Look of the Games.

The two-year countdown also marks the beginning of the final organisational phase for Rio 2016, as the Organising Committee moves from planning into operational preparations.

“With two years to go until the Games, we have concluded the exclusive planning phase, and are now entering the operational preparation phase, when the competition structures begin to take shape and we get closer to the population," said Carlos Nuzman, President of the Rio 2016 Organising Committee.

In addition to the launch of a new website and official Look, Rio 2016 has marked the two-years-to-go milestone by unveiling details of 45 pre-Games events that will be held in the host city to help build excitement for Rio 2016, while also aiding the Organising Committee’s preparations.

By the end of the year, Rio 2016 will also launch the volunteer and ticketing programmes, in addition to the official mascot, as the countdown to the Games continues.

“We keep our commitment to staging fantastic Games, in a timely manner, within budget," said Sidney Levy, Rio 2016 CEO. “Today, 55% of the Games sports venues are operationally ready, and all infrastructure projects for the city are underway.”

Nuzman added: “We keep working in full integration with the IOC and the three levels of government. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and South America will host the world’s biggest sports celebration for the first time, and we are leading the organisation with responsibility and full awareness of the complexity of this task.”
