Worldwide Olympic Partner Coca-Cola has been involved with the Olympic Torch Relay since the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games and has once again been showing its support as the Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay makes its way around Russia.

As a Presenting Partner of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay, Coca-Cola is accompanying the Olympic flame on all segments of the 65,000km route. Brand ambassadors are greeting spectators from a specially illuminated Coca-Cola “Vlivaisya” truck and handing out limited-edition Coca-Cola cans and Coca-Cola Glow Bottles, flags and more.

“The Olympic flame is a continuous symbol of unity, equality and optimism, which brings people together,” said Zoran Vucinic, President of Coca-Cola’s Russia, Ukraine and Belarus Business Unit. “At Coca-Cola, we are pleased to be able to carry this symbol throughout the country, igniting the hearts of millions people all around Russia.”

Coca-Cola also helped choose more than 2,000 of the 14,000 Torchbearers after running a national campaign within Russia, which received more than 65,000 applications and 14 million votes.

An independent jury of renowned Russian athletes, actors and musicians – including Olympic champion Yelena Isinbayeva, Sochi 2014 Ambassador Alexander Ovechkin, Russian rock star Ilya Lagutenko and Russian TV presenter Tatyana Lazareva – helped choose the final Torchbearers, including many inspirational young people.

“Before the jury was a difficult task: to choose the real heroes of Russia, who by their example show how important it is to adhere to the Olympic values in everyday life,” said Ovechkin. “Coca-Cola gave everyone the chance carry the Olympic flame, and I'm glad that people in our country can take pride in and will participate in the Sochi 2014 Torch Relay.”

In the build-up to the Olympic Torch Relay, Coca-Cola also ran a Torch Tour in 13 cities across Russia, with a display of historical torches, and giving visitors the opportunity to have their photo with Sochi 2014 torch, to participate in the Nomination campaign, learn more information about Sochi 2014 Relay and of course get an ice-cold Coke.

The Sochi 2014 Olympic Torch Relay began on October 7 and will cover 65,000km in 123 days as it passes through 2,900 towns and cities across Russia on its way to the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games on 7 February.
