As part of its on-going commitment to children’s well-being, the company is once again launching its Champions of Play initiative, which will bring together children from the host nation, Russia, and several other countries – including Canada, Ukraine, Sweden, Switzerland and Germany – for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the Games first-hand in Sochi.
Many of the children selected will also act as correspondents while at the Games, reporting on their Olympic journey back to their hometown press as they attend Olympic events, meet athletes and learn about global cultures, while also sharing the sights and sounds of the Games through their eyes with family, friends and their communities.
As part of its legacy to the city of Sochi, McDonald’s has also announced that it will donate a new children’s playground which is designed to meet the needs of children of all abilities, enabling them to play, grow and be active together.
As the Official Restaurant of the Olympic Games, McDonald’s is building two 24-hour restaurants in the Athlete’s Village and Main Media Center for athletes, officials, coaches and media. McDonald’s will also have five permanent restaurants in Sochi and surrounding region that residents and visitors will be able to enjoy during the Games and after they end. .
During the Games, McDonald’s onsite restaurants will be staffed by nearly 350 Olympic Champion Crew members from across Russia. The McDonald’s Olympic Champion Crew programme, which has been part of McDonald’s sponsorship activity since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, will see restaurant staff selected based on their status as McDonald’s All Stars or Employees of the Month at their hometown restaurants.
The Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, which begin on 7 February 2014, mark the tenth consecutive Games that McDonald’s will feed the athletes as the Official Restaurant of the Olympic Games.
