Worldwide Olympic Partner McDonald’s today officially opened its flagship restaurant in the Olympic Park with an international press event to highlight its key global initiatives focused on balanced eating and fun play.

Speakers at the opening included Don Thompson, CEO, McDonald’s Corporation, and Jill McDonald, CEO, McDonald’s UK. Located at World Square, the venue is one of four restaurants that will cater for spectators, officials and athletes during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The company’s commitment to the importance of balanced eating and fun play extends to its new Champions of Play programme. The initiative will bring children from around the world together for a once-in-a-lifetime experience in London. Up to 200 children will attend sporting events, meet athletes and tour the cultural sights of London.

McDonald’s support of the Olympic Movement began with the 1968 Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble, France, and London 2012 marks the company’s ninth consecutive Games as the Official Restaurant. In January, at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, Austria, it announced an extension of its partnership with the Olympic Games until 2020.
