Lindsey Vonn copies herself at Innsbruck 2012 Games

19/01/2012

Innsbruck 2012 Ambassador Lindsey Vonn took part in the London 2012 Olympic Games I Copy U Contest on Thursday when she threw her hands up in the air to mimic the infamous victory pose she struck after winning a medal at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

The popular contest features a photo gallery of famous athletes, including Vonn herself, captured in various signature moments during their athletic career. Participants hoping to win a trip to London can enter the contest at icopyu.olympic.org and choose from a gallery of Olympic champions including American swimmer Michael Phelps and Canadian ice hockey player Sidney Crosby.

The contest was first organised to send one lucky participant to the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games. Korean Young Hwa-Kim won the initial grand prize for copying a photo of Korean figure skater Yuna Kim, which showed an emotional Kim after her gold-medal winning performance at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

With over 100,000 unique visitors to the contest’s website since mid-November 2011, officials decided to extend the initial contest for a new grand prize of a trip to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Young athletes from the Innsbruck 2012 Games have also taken part in the contest while participating in the Culture and Education Programme offered to them in Innsbruck. Moroccan Alpine skier Adam Lamhamedi took part by showing his best skiing pose, while New Zealand curler Eleanor Adviento was captured striking her signature curling pose. Contest participants are encouraged to show support for the young athletes and copy their poses when they enter the contest.

The I Copy U contest runs until the end of February. To participate, visit the site to upload and Tweet your photo. Remember to use the hashtag #ICopyU in your photo to qualify.
