IOC President Thomas Bach addressed the delegates of the 2014 SportAccord Convention during tonight’s official Opening Ceremony in Belek/Antalya, Turkey.
The IOC Executive Board is convening alongside the event, which brings together a variety of experts in the world of sport, including leaders of International Federations, businesses, lawyers, broadcasters and rights-holders.
During his speech, the IOC President said: “We are on the frontier of change on multiple fronts, facing new and exciting opportunities that are transforming our world. But at the same time we are also facing new threats and challenges that we must confront and overcome together.”
He explained that these new opportunities and threats would be tackled through the Olympic Agenda 2020 process, an ongoing dialogue on the future of the Olympic Movement that he initiated after his election as IOC President in September 2013.
“It is through this Agenda that all of us can work together,” President Bach added. “Such cooperation and this Olympic Agenda will make sport much stronger and even more relevant for the years to come.”
The President also spoke about “the changing world we live in” and the current trend to “move at a faster and faster pace, with ever more events and activities” where all joint efforts are required to best coordinate the ever-expanding sports calendar.
