It promises to be a busy week ahead for the Olympic Movement, with a number of important agenda items at the 2020 Candidate City Briefing for IOC Members and 2013 Extraordinary IOC Session on 3 and 4 July 2013 in Lausanne.
The week kicks off with the IOC Women and Sport Awards on Monday 1 July, followed by an Executive Board meeting the following evening to discuss nominations for IOC membership and the extension of the IOC headquarters, and to hold the draw for the order of presentations to the Session on Thursday 4 July by the six candidates vying to become the next IOC President.
The Extraordinary Session gets under way on Wednesday 3 July at Beaulieu Convention Centre, with the bid teams of Istanbul (Turkey), Tokyo (Japan) and Madrid (Spain)* each making 45-minute presentations before fielding questions during 45-minute Q&A sessions. This will be followed by the swearing-in as IOC members of the four athletes elected by their peers to the IOC Athletes’ Commission during London 2012.
The next day, the three cities bidding to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games – **Buenos Aires (Argentina), Glasgow (Great Britain) and Medellin (Colombia) – will also present to the Session prior to the election of the host city. Following the vote, the six presidential candidates -- Thomas Bach, Sergey Bubka, Richard Carrión, Ser Miang Ng, Denis Oswald, and Ching-Kuo Wu ** -- will present their programmes, in camera, to the full IOC membership.
