Mukmuk represents a species in decline: the marmots of Vancouver Island. His name comes from the Chinook jargon (a First Nations trading language) word “muckamuk”, which means “food”. Mukmuk is a greedy creature: he loves eating the berries and flowers which grow in the mountains around Vancouver
