Participated in four editions of the Games of the Olympiad: XXIV Olympiad in Seoul in 1988 (gold medal), XXV Olympiad in Barcelona in 1992, XXVI Olympiad in Atlanta in 1996; XXVII Olympiad in Sydney in 2000; Six-time World champion (1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1997); Gold medal in World Cup (1985), European Championships (1986), European Cup (1985); world record beaten 35 times and current record holder with 6.15 m; voted world’s best athlete on several occasions
