Participated in four editions of the Games of the Olympiad: XXIV Olympiad in 1998 in Seoul (gold medal), XXV Olympiad in 1992 in Barcelona, XXVI Olympiad in 1996 in Atlanta; XXVII Olympiad in 2000 in Sydney; Six-time World champion (1983, 1987, 1991, 1993, 1995 and 1997); Gold medal in World Cup (1985), European Championships (1986), European Cup (1985); world record beaten 35 times; voted world’s best athlete on several occasions
