International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge joined OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart in front of OMEGA’s Countdown Clock in Sochi to count down to the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

Eight of OMEGA’s Countdown Clocks were revealed in ceremonies across Russia on 7 February, celebrating the final 365 days to the start of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The upcoming Games mark the prestigious Swiss watchmaker's 26th time in the role of Official Timekeeper since 1932.

OMEGA unveiled Countdown Clocks in eight cities across Russia - an impressive feat considering it is the world’s largest country and has nine separate time zones. These major cities include Sochi, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Niznhiy Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Pyatigorsk, Novosibirsk and Khabarovsk.

Each newly-unveiled Countdown Clock will be 3.5 metres high and will share the same design as the original 2014 Olympic Winter Games clock in Sochi. The only exception to the design is Moscow’s six-metre high Countdown Clock, located in Red Square, which features an appropriate red colour scheme rather than blue.

The clock was designed to capture the spirit of the dynamic and distinctive region which is defined as much by its history and tradition as by its contemporary outlook. Its shape and colours communicate the contrasting landscape in Sochi, and it includes bold imagery that integrates designs that represent the country's cultural and artistic history.

OMEGA President Stephen Urquhart commented on the upcoming Games, saying: “All of us at OMEGA are particularly excited about the fact that the next edition of the Olympic Winter Games is going to be contested in Sochi. We’ve already enjoyed extensive contact with the Organising Committee there and know that this Black Sea resort town is going to distinguish itself with an extraordinary Olympic Winter Games. Russia is an important market for our brand and we are looking forward to meeting our old friends there and making new ones as we serve as Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games for the 26th time”.
