CHOICE OF THE HOST CITY The IOC elects host cities following a two-stage process. Cities wishing to stage the Games in question become 'Applicant Cities'; the IOC Executive Board then selects a number of applicants to be considered 'Candidate Cities'. from which one is chosen by a vote of the IOC session.

2020 Cities submit Application Files to IOC
2020 Cities submit Application Files to IOC The International Olympic Committee is very pleased to announce that by the deadline of 15 February 2012, the cities of Istanbul (Turkey), Tokyo (Japan), Baku (Azerbaijan), Doha (Qatar) and Madrid (Spain) submitted their Application Files to host the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in 2020.

"New Horizons" for 2018
"New Horizons" for 2018 The city of PyeongChang has been elected as the host city of 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Pyeongchang received 63 votes in the first round of voting, with Munich receiving 25 votes and Annecy receiving 7 votes. This will be the first time that South Korea has hosted the Olympic Winter Games and signals the opening up of “New Horizons” for the Winter Games and sport.
