As well as an elite sporting event, the Youth Olympic Games are all about learning, sharing and making new friends. At the first YOG in Singapore last year, social media played a key role in facilitating this core value of the games.
The social media centre in the Youth Olympic Village allowed the 3,600 young athletes to stay connected with family back home, engage with new friends and share their experiences with the world via facebook, Twitter, blogging and other outlets.
Each athlete was also given a digital concierge service to receive the latest news updates from the YOG, follow the Culture and Education Programme and communicate with each other.
Check out this video to see how the young athletes got connected. You can get connected with YOG on on facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
