New for the YOG!

If your country is competing in the YOG Volleyball competition you really need to get behind it, because there can be only two teams (one woman and one man) per National Olympic Committee (NOC) competing in one of the four team sports featured at the YOG (Football, Handball, Hockey and Volleyball).

Competition format

The YOG Volleyball competition features men’s and women’s events, each featuring six teams – the winners of the five Youth Continental Championships plus either the host nation or the winner of the 2009 Youth World Championships. Both men’s and women’s events have the same format and rules. The six teams will be divided into two groups of three teams, in which each team will play every other team in the group once. The teams ranked first and second in each group will go forward to the semi-finals, while the teams ranked third in each group will play off for 5th and 6th places. The semi-final winners will play in the gold medal match, and teams that miss out on the gold will play in the bronze medal match.
