New for the YOG!

The race distance in the YOG rowing competition had been reduced to 1,000m (from the standard Olympic distance of 2,000m) to be more suitable for young athletes. And the athletes didn’t have to worry about bringing their own boats – they were provided by the event organisers in Singapore!

Competition format

There were four Rowing events at YOG - Single Sculls and Pairs for men and women.

In the Pairs, each event started with heats, from which the fastest crews qualified directly for the semi-finals (places 1-4). Crews in the heats which did not progress directly to the semi-finals  competed in a repechage to get a second chance to qualify. The first three crews in each of the two semi-finals went through to an “A” final to determine the medals and places 4-6. Crews ranking 4-6 in the semi-finals competed in a “B” final to determine places 7-12.

The format was similar for the Single Sculls, except that the crews that did not qualify through the repechage wrnt to other semi-finals, to qualify for the “C” and “D” finals and to determine places 13-24.
