Age group 16/17

New for the YOG!

The programme had been devised to suit young athletes, so the longest race was the men’s 10,000m Walk. The Medley Relay, featuring one leg each of 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m let specialists at different distances compete together for the first time! In field events, the weight of the equipment was adapted to the athletes’ age: the men’s javelin weighed 700g and the women’s discus weighed 1kg, for example.

Competition format

For the 100m, 200m, 400m, 1000m, 3000m, 100m/110m Hurdles, 400m Hurdles, 2000m and Steeplechase there were two rounds – a first round and finals. All field events had two rounds – a qualification round and a final. For the Race Walks and the Medley Relay, there was a straight final.
