Twenty-one athletes to vie for four spots on IOC Athletes’ Commission
The candidatures of 21 athletes were announced for the IOC Athletes’ Commission elections, which will be held during the Olympic Games in London in 2012. Four places on the Commission are up for grabs, with current members Hicham El Guerrouj, Rania Elwani, Frank Fredericks and Jan Zelezny all finishing their terms of office next summer.

Lillehammer named Winter Youth Olympic Games host for 2016
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) named Lillehammer, Norway, as the host city of the 2nd Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2016. Lillehammer, which hosted the 1994 Olympic Winter Games, was elected by the IOC members via postal vote, the deadline for which was 5 December. As the only city in contention, Lillehammer needed – and received – a majority to obtain victory.

More sports grace London Olympic venues
London’s Olympic venues have played host to six more sporting events, as preparations continue for next year’s Olympic Games. The handball, table tennis, fencing, boxing, judo and taekwondo events all formed part of the London Prepares series, which is bringing world-class sport to the British capital’s Olympic venues in the build-up to London 2012.

Yoggl: The world’s fastest mascot!
Whether it’s dropping into the half-pipe with Kevin Rolland, or going head-to-head with Lindsey Vonn over a tennis net, we know Innsbruck 2012’s fearless mascot, Yoggl, will do anything in the name of YOG. But even we had to gasp when we heard the mountain chamois had agreed to be the forerunner for this year’s luge World Cup opener in Igls, Austria!

Introducing Athletes Role Models... Ivo Rüegg, Yang Yang (S) and Samppa Lajunen
Among the 33 ARMs going to the Games are Swiss bobsleigher Ivo Rüegg, Chinese speed skater Yang Yang (S) and Finnish Nordic combined athlete Samppa Lajunen. Between them they have racked up an impressive tally of 10 Olympic medals and 13 World Championship titles, and there was one burning question we in the YOG team had to ask: What is their breakfast of champions?

Medals for the Innsbruck 2012 Youth Olympic Games Unveiled!
Drum roll please... drrrrr: it is our honour to present to you the medals for the first ever Winter Youth Olympic Games, Innsbruck 2012! Unveiled today by none other than Austrian Olympic downhill ski champion Fritz Strobl, a total of 372 medals will be hotly contested by 1,059 young athletes from 67 countries during the Games, which will run from 13 to 22 January.
