This torch, divided into three distinct coloured parts (white, blue and chrome), symbolises the union of earth, fire and water that is so dear to Aboriginal people. Created by designers from Australian Blue Sky, this torch wasn’t known as “Spirit of Sydney” for nothing. Indeed, at first glance its three layers recall the colours and atmosphere of Sydney harbour and especially its Opera House. Besides this, its subtle curves evoke a typically Australian flying object: the boomerang. It works using fuel that has limited impact on the environment, and is characterised by the harmony of its form and colours - it went perfectly with the Relay leading up to the first Olympic Games of the new Millennium.
