Torch of the Sarajevo 1984 Olympic Games

©IOC

This torch, made up of a combustion tube featuring the Games emblem and a small platform, was developed by Japanese manufacturer Mizuno for the Sarajevo Olympic Games in 1984. The Olympic Torch relay route was split into two from the coastal city of Dubrovnik and followed two different routes across the country: one came from the east (2,602km), while the other came from the north (2,687km). The choice to organise two routes is very simple to explain: it allowed the Olympic flame to call at all the regions of the country and gave a maximum number of people the opportunity to see the torch pass by. Finally the two flames came together in Sarajevo on 8 February 1984 for the Opening Ceremony.
