This event occurred during the Opening Ceremony of the Montreal Olympic Games in 1976. Indeed, at the end of a 775km-long relay, which pass through Greece and Canada, the flame ended up in the Olympic Stadium on 17 July 1976 and was used by Sandra Henderson and Stéphane Préfontaine to light the cauldron. These two teenagers (aged 15 and 16) symbolised Canadian youth and embodied the strength and cohesion of a country where two people and two languages live side by side.
