The Olympic flame’s journey to the Opening Ceremony of the Games in Lillehammer ended in spectacular fashion: Norvegian ski jumper Stein Gruben took off from the Lysgårdsbakken ski jumping hill, landing to hand the flame on to the next torchbearer. However, this jump was supposed to have been performed by 1988 world champion Ole Gunnar Fidjestøl, but he had injured himself in training a few days before the Opening Ceremony.
