It was from this edition of the Olympic Winter Games onwards that the Torch Relay began in Olympia. Indeed, all the relays organised for previous Winter Games had not started in the Greek city: it was Morgedal (Norway) for the Oslo 1952 and Squaw Valley 1960 Games, and Rome for the Cortina d’Ampezzo 1956 Games.
