The shape of this torch, designed by the National Research Council of Canada, was based on an emblematic monument in this Alberta city: the Calgary Tower. Standing 190.8m tall, this building has been the city’s main attraction since it was opened in 1968. It is also interesting to note that a flame burned at the top of the tower throughout the 1988 Olympic Games, making it the tallest torch in history!
