A.Yang Yang (not to be confused with her compatriot and fellow speed skater S.Yang Yang) dominated short track speed skating for several years, winning six consecutive world championships between 1997 and 2002. Of all her achievements, however, it is for her two gold medals (in the 500m and 1,000m) at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City that she will be best remembered, as she thereby became the first Chinese female athlete to win a gold medal at the Winter Games.
