The thunderbird is the personification of the “chief”. Intelligent and proud, it is known for its supernatural powers. The beating of its wings causes thunder, and the flash of its eyes produces lightning.

Rick Harry (Xwa lack tun)’s art focuses on how traditional stories are linked to real life, and how this knowledge can help people to cure themselves. Respect for all people, whatever their race or religion, is one of its central themes.

Known internationally as a Salish artist, he was chosen by the Vancouver Games Organising Committee to design indigenous visual graphics.
