Relive Vancouver 2010 Day 9 - February 20, 2010

Switzerland’s Simon Ammann proved himself to be the king of Olympic ski jumping on Day 9, winning his second title of the games and repeating his remarkable achievement from Salt Lake City in 2002.

Having already secured gold in the normal hill event, Switzerland’s Simon Ammann became the most successful ski jumper in Olympic history by winning the large hill title. It was the second time he has completed the Olympic double, following golds in both events at Salt Lake City in 2002, and makes him the first ski jumper to win four individual gold medals.

Ammann recorded jumps of 144m and 138m to give him a total of 283.6 points, beating Poland’s Adam Malysz, who took the silver, and Austria’s Gregor Schlierenzauer, who won the bronze. It was exactly the same result as the earlier normal hill event, which saw Ammann win the first gold of the Games with jumps of 105m and 108m, giving him a total of 276.5 points. “I was so nervous up there,” said Ammann, who finished 15th in Turin four years ago. “This is all very nerve-wracking. I always have this magical force to jump far here. This is truly amazing.”
