Mascot for the Sarajevo 1984 Olympic Games

It was at the 1984 Olympic Games in Sarajevo that the Slovenian artist and painter, Joze Trobec, created Vuchko the wolf. With his kindly smiling face, Vuchko symbolises strength and stamina. The choice of a wolf for these Games held in Yugoslavia did not come about by chance: you may well encounter the animal in the country’s woods and forests. However, Vuchko helped to improve the bloodthirsty and frightening image traditionally associated with other representatives of the species.
