Calgary 1988 Olympic Games mascots

Hidy (the girl) and Howdy (the boy) were the first mascots to appear as a couple (in this case, they were brother and sister). This team of white bears, the emblematic animal of the northern regions of America, incarnate, with their jovial expression, the warm Canadian hospitality. Their respective names result from a competition won by a Calgary schoolgirl. “Hidy” is a real name, and “Howdy” is a typical way to greet people in western Canada.
