Mascot of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games

©IOC

This mascot, called Izzy, was created by John Ryan for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Originally named “Whatizit”, this mascot represents a blue character, wearing training shoes and integrating the Olympic rings into various parts of his body. Izzy is able to represent all the Olympic disciplines: he can take the shape of a runner, swimmer, basketballer, etc. Having had a mixed reception when presented at the OG Closing Ceremony at the 1992 Games in Barcelona, Whatizit was revamped and renamed by Atlanta children.
